I wish I could say this was a good experience, but having attended other Fado performances in Lisbon, this one felt quite disappointing — especially for the price.
We paid €60 per person for a three-course meal, which was just okay. The wine was good and our waiter was kind, which were the highlights.
Unfortunately, the Fado itself was underwhelming. The three performers — a singer and two guitarists — gave the impression they’d rather be anywhere else. After each song, they returned to a table at the front of the restaurant and spent the time on their phones until the next set. This lack of engagement really detracted from the sense of intimacy and reverence that Fado is known for.
The venue itself is large with high ceilings, which made it difficult to create any sort of cosy atmosphere. It also didn’t help that there were very few people there on a Thursday evening, which added to the awkwardness.
Overall, it didn’t feel like an authentic Fado experience, and at this price point, I simply can’t recommend it.
